It was a long and difficult contest for #Resist. We went through everything from hacks to threats to great stories and art–it was quite a roller coaster. Apparently, when I switched the title of this contest and anthology from ‘Fucked’ to ‘#Resist’ based off a Roger Waters concert, things went weird. People who we’ve never seen before wrote emails to us. Some congratulating us on the contest and others to tell us to ‘fuck’ ourselves and that my ‘canadian ass’ should be ‘beaten’ for ‘bashing Trump’. <–and that was just the NICE anti-Resist emails.
First things first, folks. The good doctor isn’t Canadian. Let’s clear that misconception up (it must be the hockey mullet….). In fact the only person who can pass for Canadian on this editorial team is Jenni because she’s British and technically, England owns both the US and Canada (or did..history is a bit touchy). I digress.
This contest is special, to say the least. The winner (and it took a panel of judges–none of whom ever looked at our publication before or saw the names of any writer–weeks to get everything down to a short list and then an additional week just to agree on the top 3!) is….
….going to receive $1,000 Canadian (ah, I get why they think Doc is Canadian because he fronts the bills in Canadian money…naw, he aint canadian, he just likes birds on his dollars) and that person is….
….someone who was published here before….and his name is….
….a name associated with Deadpool…..
…and lest we forget the $10 bonus for being published in our last-ever #I’mBroke anthology….
….we are VERY proud to present without further ado….
‘Parachute’ by Ryan Dunham!!
We are SO excited to have Ryan’s work in our anthology and we think it is a perfect capper to #Resist. The judges had a lot of hard choices–and there were a lot of really brilliant entries that did not make the anthology–so it is amazing to have so much hard work for a writer pay off big in the end. Our hats are off to Ryan (and to all of our contestants!). Way to go, a win difficult to come by but very deserved.
That’s it, folks! Winners will be paid as the anthology starts going to press (which is late Feb or March). That is also when we will announce our next BIG thing. I’ll give you a hint–this may be the end of our anthologies…but we’re still up and swinging. Stay tuned for more 🙂
Until then, may all of your stories be dreams on a kitten’s tongue (or a chainsaw–hey, we aint going to judge!).
